Randolfo Hernandez Garcia, 20, and Sulma Trigueros, 25, have been identified as the residents who were found dead in the first floor of their home in the 300 block of West North Street between Newberry and Penn streets in York City around 5:09 a.m., according to the York County Coroner's office and the country emergency dispatch service.
The three-story duplex was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm fire, three people were trapped in the home, and a coroner was called to the scene, according to dispatch.
"Both victims were found on the first floor of the residence - where there had been extensive fire involvement, making rescue difficult and dangerous to first responders," Coroner Pam Gay stated in the updated release on July 14, 2023.
Their causes of death were smoke inhalation and thermal injuries and the manners of death were accidental, according to the updated release.
One person was rescued by fire crews at the scene, according to emergency radio broadcasts by the city's fire chief.
The American Red Cross of Greater PA is assisting people displaced by the fire but the exact number of those affected has not been released at the time of publishing.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
